Our Story

One mango tree, and a lot of regulars since 2022.

Izzy's was founded by Michael Kane, a retired American businessman and former CMO & EVP of a public company, and Yam (Paphoan Suwannathamma), who brings years of hospitality and PR experience from Four Seasons properties in Thailand. Izzy's originally opened as an outdoor kiosk on August 12, 2022. On April 1, 2026, we reopened after a full renovation and are now a fully enclosed, air-conditioned Mid-Century inspired café with floor-to-ceiling glass walls and a bright yellow interior — easy to spot, hard to forget. So if you've seen older photos or reviews describing us as outdoor seating, that's no longer the case!

The café is named after Izzy, a rescue dog who has become the shop's official mascot and greets nearly every guest who walks in.

Every item on the menu uses beans developed in partnership with MPresso, a specialty roaster based in Bangkok — the beans are custom-roasted specifically for Izzy's Specialty Coffee, not bought off the shelf. Our beans are grown by farmer Nan Dum under natural forest shade in Mae Hang Luang, on the border of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai — we've personally visited the farm and met the grower ourselves.

Most drinks can be made with Almond, Oat, Soy, Coconut, or lactose-free milk — so anyone with dietary preferences or restrictions can enjoy the full menu.

Since opening in 2022, Izzy's has become one of the more talked-about independent cafés on the island — not through big marketing spend, but through the kind of consistency that turns first-time visitors into daily regulars.

Known for: Latte Cloud, Sticky Date Latte, Honeycomb Caramel Latte, Samui Sunset, Flat White with a ristretto shot, Dirty Coffee, homemade caramel, and organic single-origin beans from Mae Hang Luang.

Our Home

Samui is our home, so we treat it like one.

Samui is our home. For Michael and Yam—and honestly, the whole island—the real boss around here is our rescue dog, Izzy. When you love the place you live, you naturally want to take good care of it. For us, that isn't some grand corporate initiative; it's the exact same basic instinct that makes us weigh every single espresso shot to get it perfect, or drive up north to sit down with the farmer who grows our beans.

We buy our coffee and our cascara syrup directly from Nan Dum's farm in Mae Hang Luang, which just makes sense for everyone involved. The same goes for our pastries. Instead of flying in frozen stuff from halfway across the world, our croissants come from a baker right here on Samui, so nothing on the counter is ever more than a day old.

We also do what we can around the shop to keep trash out of the island's landfills:

  • Repurposing Milk Cartons: We rinse out our used oat, almond, and coconut milk boxes, cut them open, and turn them into sturdy carrying boxes for takeaway orders.
  • Ditching Single-Use Plastic: If you're drinking your coffee here, it comes in real glassware or ceramics.
  • Natural Takeaway Holders: When you take a drink to go, we hand it to you in a handmade bamboo holder instead of a plastic bag.

Nothing we do here is for a badge, a certification, or a pat on the back. It's just about doing the right thing to keep our home clean, plain and simple.
